Walking In Ireland
I have been a Hill-walker for a number of years. Rambling in Ireland is an amazing pastime, people don't realise what they are missing.
Ireland has a multitude of walks and a beautiful landscape that can only be appreciated by getting out into the fresh air and exploring. What could be a better interest than one that lets you see one of the most stunning landscapes in the world.
'Emerald Isle' not just because it's green but it is also a jewel of unrivalled beauty......
Waymarked Trails are paths that are developed with the agreement and support of landowners whose lands are crossed on the route. They are not necessarily rights-of-way, although old roads and paths are used on many of these walking routes, which are all waymarked and signposted. There are over 40 National Waymarked Trails around Ireland, including the Wicklow Way, Kerry Way, Burren Way, and there are many shorter walks that are associated with these larger developments. It is possible to search and find information on all National Waymarked Trails on the irishtrails.ie website.
According to the book "The Element Encyclopedia of Magical Creatures," by John and Caitlin Matthews, the leprechaun legend can be traced back to eighth-century tales of water spirits called "luchorpán," meaning small body. The legend eventually evolved into a mischievous household fairy said to haunt cellars and drink heavily.
If you are lucky you may happen upon one of their houses dotted throughout the Irish countryside.....
The Phoenix park is the largest enclosed public park in any capital city in Europe. It was originally formed as a royal hunting park in the 1660s and opened to the public in 1747. A large heard of fallow deer still roam the park to this day.
The park is also the home to the Zoological Gardens, Áras an Uachtaráin and Victorian flower gardens.
The Pheonix park is only a mile and a half from O'Connell street.
What other Capital city can make this boast or has such a remarkable facility.....
So many paths to walk.
So many hills to climb.
So many summits to conquer.
In some ways walking can be a reflection of life.
Walking is one of my favourite passions its a shame about the weather......
